I was at the K3K hanging out with Hooi one night last week. He showed me his recently bought toy from Lomography, the
Color Ring Flash. I was keen to test out this Ring Flash since long time ago and finally I had the chance to play with it!

RingFlash is a circular flash usually fits around your lens. It is best for close up (macro) photography since the lights will fire from all round and transmitted a very soft and even lighting onto the subject's surface, with a few shadows visible in the photograph.
I have done some test with my 40D- what I did was setting it to the slower speed and manually flash before the shutter shut back up. On the other hand, it can actually sync pretty well with the hotshoe on my camera, but this it won't attach to the front lens, so you would need someone to hold that for you as well.
This Color Ring Flash from Lomography has the slots on each exis for you to put in different colored gel, in order to produce multi colored flash photography like this:

I found Ring Flash is also very good for portrait photography, as it will very much softening the shadows casted from the flash. I also gives a rounding flash effect on your photo when you fire it from front.
