ALL SKATE NO HATE

ALL SKATE NO HATE
Went to the skate park with Hooi during the last weekend. Had a little bit of shooting there and here are some photos to share. Even though my focus was more on Hooi alone that day but I can already feel the challenges shooting an extreme sport like this. As a non-experienced shooter I would love to share the difficulties I faced and my way doing it:

1. These people are fast, and they keep moving around. It ain't a competition which they have a fix routine repeatedly and you get to practice until you found the best position. So you gotta know your needs, understand your camera, be fast and keep firing.

2. Technical wise, facing a bright white sky is a pain-in-the-ass. Because if you use the shutter/aperture (AV, TV) priority mode, you would definitely get the picture of a dark subject with bright sky behind. My way is switch back and forth with my desire shutter speed or aperture to get the right exposure, then switch back to manual mode and lock it.

3. Do not rely much onto the auto focus. Make good use of your selective focus, and most of the time, I looked for a subject/landscape (even ground) that has the closest range where you going to freeze your subject, then lock it. Choose a higher aperture to give more focus room.

4. Composition, the easy way might be shoot them wide all the time and later crop it in photoshop. But I would prefer to stay with "Get the best shot in your camera, perfect it in post", so I would try as best as possible to frame my shots on the spot.

Here goes the pictures. They aren't any great photographs but I believed it was a good learning experience and I surely will do better next time. Enjoy~
